The Ridge House exemplifies enduring architecture, thoughtful craftsmanship, and advanced environmental performance. Designed as a timeless family home, it uses natural materials and functional design to blend traditional character with modern efficiency, creating a calm environment meant to age gracefully for generations.
Its exterior features balanced rooflines, classic gables, and durable cladding, harmonizing with the neighbourhood and combining modern proportions with traditional forms for lasting curb appeal. Materials like Hardie siding, metal trim, and standing-seam metal roofing were chosen for durability and low maintenance, ideal for the coastal climate. Custom metal details and precise transitions highlight craftsmanship and quality.
Built above an urban aquifer, The Ridge House required engineered excavation and a well-drained foundation for stability. Reinforced concrete porches, insulated trusses, and metal flashing improve resilience. Simplified rooflines and efficient framing lower maintenance, ensuring longevity against environmental challenges.
The interior prioritizes open spaces, using ceiling shifts and wing walls to create flow and connection. Vaulted upper-level ceilings add volume while meeting zoning rules. Integrated storage and a combined mudroom-laundry enhance utility, with clear distinctions between public and private spaces supporting both family interaction and privacy.
The home’s interiors feature natural oak, quartz, and matte finishes for a cohesive, calming palette. Triple-glazed windows, an airtight envelope, and all-electric systems boost comfort and efficiency. An HRV system, Energy Star appliances, and low-VOC finishes promote air quality, energy savings, and overall wellness, making The Ridge House a finely crafted, sustainable home built to last.
